Happy release day to my alter ego, Annabelle Weston! Today the 3rd book in the Desert Heat series released!

notoriouswoman_msrNotorious Woman…

Kate has a bad reputation. Since her pa’s murder, she’s been a whip-wielding, ball-busting hellcat, determined to prove she can run a ranch just as well as any man. Then her little sister goes and hires a new foreman—a foreman who makes Kate tingle in places she shouldn’t be tingling, not if she wants to keep up a tough façade. When Jake takes liberties by kissing her—never mind where he kisses her—she clocks him in the chin then hopes he’ll kiss her some more. What’s happening to her?

Jake isn’t just at the ranch to help run the place. He made a bet he could tame Kate, a bet that would give him the money he needs for his own piece of land. He never expected her to be so ornery…or taste so sweet. And he never expected to like her more when she’s cantankerous. Unfortunately, it’s a bet he can’t afford to lose, even though he’s already lost his heart.

Inside Scoop: This historical romp is a sexy Western take on The Taming of the Shrew.

About a quarter mile from the gate, he came upon a farmhouse, what appeared to be a bunkhouse on the left and a shed for a farrier on the right. Both could use a coat of fresh stucco. As Jake rode up to the house, he came to the conclusion these ladies were over their pretty little heads.

A chicken coop listed to one side. A few chickens scratched the dry earth. He doubted they laid a decent egg to breakfast on. The first winter storm would most likely knock the coop over. No self-respecting coyote would have any trouble breaking in and helping himself to a not-so-plump chicken dinner.

There was a good-sized barn with an empty corral behind it. Beyond the corral, a pasture where livestock should be grazing. He frowned. The girls had no idea how to run a ranch and obviously that idiot of a foreman who had worked for their pa didn’t either. Nobody had done a lick of work in a long time. Damn good thing he’d come along when he did. He’d fix the place right up.

Whoa there, boy! What was he doing? Thinking like that would have him trying to make a permanent home out of Crowley ranch. That wasn’t how it was going to be. He was going to win this wager and then get on to Texas where the real cattlemen lived. In his pocket would be a fat purse—enough to buy his own place.

Best to keep his goal in mind, else he’d wind up draining his blood and sweat on this spread with nothing to show for his effort.

Kate Crowley came out on her porch carrying a lit coal-oil lamp as the sun was about to set. She wore riding clothes and a hat. Thankfully, he didn’t see any whip or other weapon.

A gust of wind whipped her loose hair and reddened her cheeks. He had to admit she made a picture of Western country womanhood any man would be itching to come home to. The fact that for a split-second he thought of coming home to her disturbed him greatly.

Her eyes met his and he couldn’t help but notice taut nipples beneath her blouse. Jake sucked in a breath, his own body reacting with sudden lust. She drew a wool shawl tighter around her shoulders. It hugged her curves and gave the impression of vulnerability. She appeared sturdy enough, he reckoned, but there was no mistaking she was holding her own against a stacked deck.

“You found us,” she said kindly. In the dying light, Jake could see the gratitude reflected in her eyes.

“Yes ma’am.” Jake tipped his hat. He couldn’t afford to be sorry for her plight. Like he’d told the boys at the saloon, her dilemma wasn’t his concern. In six weeks, he’d be a man of means. Most likely, the sisters would be on their way back East, where ladies belonged. “You here to check on my sobriety?”

“Do I need to?”

He chuckled. She gave as good as she got.

“Come with me,” she said and stepped down from her perch. “I’ll show you where to put your gear.”

Like a general who’d just given orders, she marched off, her head high. He couldn’t help but watch the sway of her hips. No matter how much she tried to be one of the boys, this woman had virtues no man could ignore.

Resolve twitched his lips as he pictured her walking like that without any clothes on. Her ass would sway and dimple with each step. He imagined the curve of her bottom as he held her. Damn if he didn’t wonder what she’d be like underneath him. Would her fire scorch him?

His cock grew hard, pressing uncomfortably against his denim. He adjusted his stance, giving himself a chance to settle down.

Jake led Rascal to the bunkhouse where Kate stood waiting by the open door. She went inside, hung the lantern on a wooden peg and set the bedding on the nearest bunk. Her hands lingered a moment on the rough mattress, and seeing her bent over like that, Jake had the urge to come up behind her and press his aching cock against the curve of her buttocks.

Clearing his throat, hoping to gain some control of his lust, he asked, “Where are the other wranglers?” Jake poked his head inside.

“There aren’t any others,” she said, furrowing her forehead.

He raised a brow. She had to be joking. “You hired me to be a foreman. You mean to tell me I’m the only hombre working here?”

Her lips pressed together as she watched him, almost as if she was annoyed that he would question her. But question her he would. This was not the job he’d agreed to. Foreman was one thing. Doing the job of a dozen wranglers wasn’t.

“You’re our only employee. We can’t afford to hire any more help right now.”

“How in the heck do you expect to get the considerable amount of work that needs doing finished by the time winter rolls in?” He stared hard at her. “Which will be sooner than you think.”

Kate stepped forward, her shoulders pulled back, breasts pushed tight against her blouse. The intent he knew was to appear taller, stronger, but instead she looked hotter than hell and had him thinking of hauling her into his arms to feel the softness pressed against him. “I intend to do my share of the work. My sister too.”

Jake let out a whistle. “You must be joshing. I can’t bring cows down from these hills with a couple of women.”

Her eyes glowed in the lamplight. “That’s exactly what we are going to do, Mr. Madden. Are you telling me you’re not able to do the job?”

Jake pushed his hat back on his head. Was she questioning his abilities? He didn’t like what he saw but he wasn’t going to back down with so much at stake.

“I didn’t think so.” She rested her hands on her hips. Ample, curving hips. “You can put your horse in the barn.”

“No thanks. He’ll do fine in the corral. No use spoiling him.”

“Suit yourself.”

When she brushed past him, heat encompassed him. Instinctively Jake reached out, stopping her. She glanced up at him, fire filling her eyes. He breathed deep. She smelled of flowers, sugar. Gripping a tendril of her loose hair, he twirled it around his fingers.

“What are you doing?” Her voice was soft, husky, giving away that she was more affected by his simple touch than her words showed.

What was he doing? He wanted to kiss her. To touch her.

Instead Jake shook his head, pulling himself from whatever spell had overtaken him. He blinked a few times, dropping his hand to his side.

A Highlander tamed…

Laird Daniel Murray seeks adventure, battle and freedom for his countrymen. Putting off his duties as laird—with a promise to his clan he’ll return come spring—Daniel sets off with his men to fight alongside William Wallace and the Bruce. But soon he stumbles across an enchanting lady in need. She tantalizes him with an offer he simply can’t refuse and a desire he attempts to dismiss.

A lady’s passion ignited…

Escaping near death at the treacherous hands of a nearby clan, Lady Myra must find the Bruce and relay the news of an enemy within his own camp. Alone in a world full of danger and the future of her clan at stake, she must trust the handsome, charismatic Highland laird who promises to keep her safe on her journey—and sets her heart to pounding.

Together, Daniel and Myra will risk not only their lives, but their hearts while discovering the true meaning of hope and love in a world fraught with unrest.

SHORT EXCERPT:

“What of yourself? How will ye protect me from yourself?”

Daniel laughed at that, spreading his arms outward. “Have some faith, Lady Myra, I wouldna harm ye. I do possess a certain amount of self-control.”

Myra studied her escort for several moments, taking in his towering height, the breadth of his shoulders, strength of his legs. He was a man built for warring. Despite his considerable bulk, he moved with ease and grace, giving credence to his control of his body—but his mind was another matter.

“Ye’ll pardon me for being skeptical. ’Tis not a man’s tendency to contain himself when alone with a female.”

“Truly? Ye think all men beasts?” He stepped closer to her and she imagined heat coming off his large frame in waves.

“Those I’ve come to meet.”

“Ah…”

Was there a twinge of hurt in his words? Had she offended him?

“I mean no offense, Daniel. ’Tis only my experience that I speak of.”

“I take no affront, Lady Myra. Ye’ve been through quite a trauma today.”

He glanced up at the sky, assessing the whitish-grey clouds and she did the same, wondering at his thoughts.

“I will see ye safely to Eilean Donan, so ye might be about your business.” He paused, considering her. She felt more exposed than she’d ever been in her life, and she couldn’t be sure why. She was completely clothed. He had no idea who she truly was. “On one condition.”

Myra swallowed, feeling her nerves prickle. He was indeed a man. “What is your price?”

Daniel nodded his chin in her direction, a challenging glint entering his eyes. “Ye must agree to marry me.”

She gasped, stepped back, her mouth agape in horror. She fisted her hands into the folds of her gown and cloak. “Marry ye?” Shaking her head vehemently, she tried to keep her throat from closing in panic.

“Aye.” He didn’t sound even a quarter as nervous as she did. Almost like he asked lasses to wed with him on a daily basis.

Was the notion of being forever tied to another so mundane to him? Of so little value? What kind of a man was he?

Miraculously, she was able to recover her voice and was pleased when her reply came out in steady, even tones, “Why would I do that?”

“Because ye want to reach the Bruce in one piece. Because your reason for getting there is of such importance ye will not tell me why. Because I will keep ye safe and ye’ve already had the misfortune of meeting one of the many vagrants upon the road. Next time ye may not be so lucky—even with your swift hand.”

He had a point… Myra didn’t want to die.

“Turn around.” His gentle command was given in a husky tone that sent shivers of delight racing along her spine.

She obeyed him. Not for fear of retribution, but because she wanted desperately to be out of her clothes. Desired at this moment more than anything, to feel his flesh on hers, his mouth on her skin.

With deft fingers he unlaced her corset and let it fall to the ground.

“…I promise ye, I’m not a brute.”

She frowned. “Ye promised to control yourself too and yet ye’ve already kissed me.”

Daniel reached for her hands once more, stroking his thumb over her knuckles. “Aye. If ’tis your wish, I’ll not kiss ye again.” Until the bedding…

Hope you all have had a good weekend so far! Are you ready for a sexy Sunday six sentences???

The following six sentences are from my new release, A Knight’s Victory. Elena and Michael have been separated for six years–and she’s been married off to a tyrant. Prior to her marriage, she and Michael were in love and secretly handfasted (pledged to marry one another). They’ve finally been reunited, albeit under not so pleasant circumstances and the overwhelming urge to kiss one another is all too tempting…

ElizaKnight_AKnightsVictory2500He fought the urge to lift her up and take her to his bed. Instead he held her close, kneaded her back, stroked her arms. He would let her lead the way. She parted her lips ever so slightly. As urgently as he wanted to thrust his tongue inside and claim what she offered, he resisted. Instead he teased her with his lips, kissing her over and over, until he felt like his head was swimming.

Around the holidays, I absolutely love to bake! Bread, muffins, cookies, you name it, my house smells good everyday in December!

ElizaKnight_TheHighlandersConquest_2500Today, I thought I’d share a muffin recipe that I just made! It was so good… They were gone within a couple hours and I had to make another batch so the kids had something for breakfast the next morning (my kids won’t eat cereal… I’ve tried, but you’d think I was feeding them manure!)

Because I wanted to make sure my kiddies had balanced meal, this muffin is jam-packed with goodness, but tastes like heaven… Even my husband liked them–and he hates healthy things 🙂

So, if you’re looking for something yummy to munch on Christmas morning, or this afternoon, try this recipe!

MUFFINSEliza’s Banana Chocolate Muffins — Yum!

Ingredients:

1 cup of Chocolate Almond Milk

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

3/4 c. of oatmeal

1 1/4 c. whole-wheat pastry flour

2 tbsp ground flaxseed

1/3 c. grapeseed oil

2 ripe bananas

1/2 c. walnuts

1/2 c. semi-sweet mini-chocolate chips

1/3 c sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare muffin tin — either grease or use paper cups. I like the paper cups better.

Put oatmeal in a food processor and grind for a few seconds–until it looks like flour/crushed oats. Stir together pastry flour, oat flour, baking powder, salt, flaxseed. In a measuring cup, stir the vinegar into the milk. In a separate bowl, mash bananas. Add sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, oil, milk, nuts and chocolate chips. Stir in the flour.

Pour mixture into each muffin cup–almost to the top.

Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean. Cool for about 10 minutes and then nosh!!!

Enjoy 🙂

Hunk Day Excerpt!

It’s Hunk Day again!!!

Today’s excerpt is from my new release, THE HIGHLANDER’S LADY! I love when two character’s are butting heads and inside they are warring with ire and desire. This is a kissing scene between Myra and Daniel…

ElizaKnight_TheHighlandersLady2500“Ye canna stay in here with me,” Myra said, staring at the bed.

She refused to kiss him ever again, let alone have him bed her.

“Ye have no choice.”

At his words she whirled around, feeling the heat of her anger fill her cheeks. Hands clenched, she ground her teeth together, trying not to fly into an unladylike rage, complete with a few well-chosen words.

“I have a choice. Everyone has a choice.” At least, if a person was willing to deal with the consequences, they did.

Daniel didn’t flinch at her retort, he did however study her with an expression she’d never seen before. ’Twas dangerous, dark. His jaw muscles clenched, but he did not narrow his eyes in a glower, instead his gaze rested coldly on her, sending a chill up her spine.

“Choice? Nay, I disagree.”

Myra’s hands flew to her hips. “Would ye have everyone under your thumb?”

“Nay, ’tis not possible.”

Oh, blazing baby Jesus, did the man have no sense? Myra tried to gape at him, but was finding that task to be quite difficult.

“Are ye daft?”

At that he did react quickly, stepping toward her only once but closing a distance that would have taken her many steps. His face drew close to hers, enough so that if she moved an inch closer her lips would be on his.

“How dare ye talk to me like that,” he growled. Then his lips were on hers. She didn’t even have time to catch her breath.

This kiss was different than the one he’d given her by the burn. This time his lips pressed demandingly to hers, taking control, ownership. And she didn’t back away. Nay, Myra pressed harder, her fingers curling over the thick muscle of his shoulders, nails digging in through his leine shirt. Daniel’s hands roved over her back, hauling her up against him with a shock to her senses. She gasped, her mouth opening up enough for his invasion. Hot, slick, velvety tongue swept inside her mouth. Oh, by the saints… She was delirious with pleasure, with need, wanton thoughts.

Myra swirled her own tongue around his, loving the way it sent jolts of fire through her system, made her body weak with the need for him to kiss her forever. She was not timid, didn’t balk when he nibbled her lip or when his hands stroked over her arse and tucked her closer, the hardness of his arousal pressing wickedly against the apex of her thighs.

Oh, she was a bad girl, a very very bad girl. But she refused to feel regret over her actions, over her body’s obvious wicked desire, over her need to see this moment fulfilled. Daniel wasn’t a stranger, he was her husband for the moment and she was his wife.

This was allowed… And she was going to revel in being allowed to touch him this way, to take the pleasure he offered this once.

Save…for one little problem. Myra was angry at him. Tired of him bossing her around. If she was going to kiss him, allow him to stroke her arse, it was going to be on her terms.

A Lady's Charade, historical romance

It’s Wednesday! We’re mid-way through the week! And…its time for another steamy excerpt!

ImageToday’s excerpt comes from A LADY’S CHARADE (Book One: The Rules of Chivalry) which has recently gotten a face-lift! Like the new cover? This scene shows sensual tension upon the hero and heroine’s first encounter. Chloe is being attacked by a ruffian (she’s just bitten her attacked), and Alexander swoops in like a knight in shining armor…sigh… Without further ado…enjoy!

In an instant he threw her to the ground and began kicking her. She rolled away from his kicks, screaming and spitting his blood onto the ground. Her ribs ached where his feet landed blows. Her heart pounded in her ears, all thoughts of food, shelter and warmth escaped her. Now all she knew was she needed to survive. She needed to get away from this barbarian. Somehow she managed to rise to her feet amidst his blows. Then his kicking ceased and she felt herself rise higher into the air, her feet no longer touching the ground.

Had she died and was now cascading up to Heaven?

A strong arm grasped her about the waist. The cold armor that covered the arm bit through her clothes. Her senses screamed, she wanted to cry out for mercy. She turned to see who it was, but could only make out a helmet. Her eyes were heavy, her mouth slack. She was close to fainting, and welcomed the darkness, begged it to consume her.

But her savior wouldn’t let her. A knight, a large, fierce looking knight. He scooped her up like she was a feather and plopped her on his horse in front of him. Oh, Dear God in Heaven! Don’t let him hurt me!

Her buttocks hit hard muscled thighs—the warmth of which were in strong contrast to the metal on his arms. Tingles of pleasure and pain shot from her bottom through her thighs as his warmth seeped into her skin. She wiggled closer, wishing she could melt into his warm body, feeling foolish at the same time. How did she know this man didn’t plan a similar fate for her that the vile man had? The other knights? She didn’t know… but her instincts were not on alert. She felt safe, almost comforted.

As he settled her in front of him, strong arms wound around her middle. Her back pressed against the chain mail on his chest. She was overwhelmed by the sheer mass and strength of this man. Nipples tightened of their own accord, throwing her into vast confusion. No longer did she feel pain and revulsion. Quite the opposite. Sensations ripped through her body—she at once wanted to kiss this man, let him stroke her skin. Take her. Good lord, what was she thinking?

He shouted down to the disgusting man. “Cease and desist! What the devil do you think you are doing?”

Several armed men held their swords at her attacker’s throat. He held his arms up in surrender.

“She has attacked me! I will have her hanged for this!” he swiped at his bloody cheek.

Chloe shuddered and could still feel the remnants of vomit threatening to escape. Would they believe him, would she have escaped this vile creature just to feel a bristly rope squeezed tight against the tender flesh of her neck? She took deep breaths to keep herself from letting the liquid contents of her stomach go right onto her protector’s horse. Her savior’s strong arms held fast. He would protect her. Somehow she knew that. She leaned back, limp, utterly fatigued. It was all too much for her. She began to sob quietly so as not to let the knight hear her. She tried to peek at him, but all she could see was shiny metal.

“You’ll not be having anyone hanged stranger. Tie him to one of the ash trees,” he ordered. The lousy man kicked and shouted as the knights gripped him by his limbs and dragged him to a tree. They tied him to it tightly, another strip of rope gagging him. “Spending the night in the cold and defenseless will teach you to prey on innocents.” The knight’s voice was like steel, smooth and cold.

The man protested, but his words were muffled and Chloe couldn’t make out what he said. She sunk deeper into her rescuer’s lap.

“Thank you sir, for saving me,” she whispered. She kept her face cast downward, scared and too embarrassed to have him see how dirty she was.

“The rules of chivalry say it is a knight’s duty to save a damsel in distress, or so I am told.” He chuckled softly.

Happy Sunday 🙂

It’s time for Six Sentences! This week, I’m featuring some sentences from my latest novellette release, HIGHLANDER BRAWN, a steamy, quick read! In this scene, because they were caught in a less than proper situation, Sorcha’s brother Drostan is forcing her to wed Laird Reed Campbell. This scene is from Reed’s point-of-view.

ImageHis bride stood with a dagger in each hand and a glare that nearly had him running for cover. Her auburn hair looked afire atop her head since the curls had come unbound from her ribbons.

“I suppose those daggers are meant for me, lass?” he said.

Drostan stood to the side, wearing an expression of pure amusement.

“Aye. Dinna come any closer.”

The sequel to Highland Steam.

Sorcha never thought she’d be married, let alone to Reed Campbell, leader of a rival clan. But when her brother and Campbell form a truce—and she finds herself kissing Campbell in her bedchamber—her brother insists on a marriage. And Campbell insists on having Sorcha in his bed. Though she vowed never to fall in love, she can’t resist his strong arms and hot kisses—or the way he spanks her when provoked. And oh, she provokes him. As much and as often as possible.

Campbell has never cared for weak women. Is it any wonder his desire for the sword-wielding, knife-throwing Sorcha consumes him so completely? The lass may say she doesn’t like him, but the way she writhes and moans beneath him proves otherwise. He’s determined to have her in every way—and in every position—it’s possible to have a woman. But first he needs to win her fierce, feisty heart.
